ReadyNevadaCounty.org - official Nevada County website with resources for to sign up for CodeRED, download a copy of the official Ready Nevada County handbook, and more.

Check out the Emergency Services Maps page at the County website, now featuring a wall-size map of Nevada County Evacuation Zones so you can tell how far you are from the zones activated during a wildfire. You can get a 36" high by 48" wide black-and-white print of this for $3.50 plus tax from Real Graphic Source (Grass Valley Blueprint) on Maltman Drive (near Brunswick Taco Bell) in Grass Valley.

There's also a more portable 12-page Evacuation Zone Map Packet you can print at home and keep in the glove box of your car or in a Go Bag so that if you have to evacuate, you can refer to a paper map that should be more helpful than your smartphone screen.

The Emergency Services Maps page also has Evacuation Zone maps for just Nevada City and Grass Valley, Truckee, plus many Fire District maps.

Controlled burns are very much key to the future of forest health and fire mitigation efforts in our area, according to many experts. First-timers should probably start on a small scale in the range of 5 to 50 acres with you and your surrounding neighbors. Larger-scale projects in the area of 50 to 500 acres have funding opportunities if you are willing to be a community organizer. Basically, you organize the work and the experts come in and teach how to manage the burns.
